Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost
No Change to Net County Cost. The funding for the BearCat will come from the State and Federal asset forfeiture programs. This funding will be included at Addenda. The Sheriff's Office receives qualifying asset forfeiture funds through joint investigations with state and federal agencies. The goal of asset forfeiture is to remove the profits from those who benefit from the illegal drug trade. Asset forfeiture funds are used for specific law enforcement purposes generally focused on officer safety and equipment.

Background

On February 26, 2012, the Board approved the sole source purchase of a Lenco Armored Rescue Vehicle, AKA BearCat, in an amount not to exceed $291,399.12. The Sheriff's office ordered the vehicle and the vehicle is now ready to be delivered to the County. This vehicle was not included on the FY 13-14 fixed asset list due to the fact that the purchase was approved in FY 12/13. The Sheriff is requesting that the Board approve the addition of the fixed asset purchase in FY 13-14.

The vehicle will be used by the Sheriff's SWAT Team.
