Title

Supervisor Parlin recommending the Board receive an update on the Fork Fire and discuss a potential ban on open flame campfires in El Dorado County and provide direction to staff.

Body

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The Fork Fire has been burning in the Eldorado National Forest (Crystal Basin/Gerle Creek, 15 Miles NE of Pollock Pines) since September 8, 2020. The September 22, 2020 Board meeting is the first opportunity for the Board to receive an update.

Additionally, County residents have sent in a multitude of emails and phone calls requesting a ban on campfires, often specifically at campgrounds in the Coloma Valley.  The statewide emergency closure of the Eldorado National Forests and the prohibition of open flame on lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management have been given as support for a ban in El Dorado County.
