Funding for this portion of the acquisition process will be provided by Highway Bridge Program grant funds.

Background:
The Hazel Valley Road @ EID Canal - Bridge Replacement Project (Project) is located 2 miles east of the community of Fresh Pond, just south of Highway 50. The existing bridge is functionally obsolete and does not meet current traffic needs due to its narrow width. The new bridge is proposed to be two lanes to meet current traffic needs and design standards. The approaches to the new bridge will be widened along with improvements to the drainage along Hazel Valley Road. Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2016.

Reason for Recommendation:
The Department of Transportation (Department) was awarded a Highway Bridge Program grant for the Project. The Project is subject to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The CEQA Mitigated Negative Declaration and the NEPA Finding of No Significant Impact will be prepared and brought back to the Board for approval.

The research of all potentially affected parcels and the acquisition of portions of the subject parcel are necessary from the subject property owners to enable the construction of the Project improvements. In ord...
