Background
On August 2, 2011, your Board adopted Resolution 135-2011 authorizing the Sheriff, or his designee, on behalf of the County to sign and submit grant applications for Fiscal Year 2011/2012. This resolution is to extend that authorization into FY 12/13.

Reason for Recommendation
Many grant opportunities have short turn around times, making it difficult for the Sheriff's Office to meet grant application deadlines while also complying with Board policy that requires approval from the Board of Supervisors prior to submitting grant applications.  Approval of this recommendation will streamline the grant application process and prevent missed funding opportunities due to grant submittal deadlines that are less than the lead time required for the Board of Supervisors Agenda Item approval process.

Action(s) to be taken following Board approval
1) The Board Chairman will sign the resolution and Acting Board Clerk will forward to the Sheriff's Office. 2) The Sheriff's Office will continue to pursue grant opportunities for funding to support law enforcement services in El Dorado County. 3) The Sheriff, or his designee, will sign the necessary documents required to submit grant applications and execute grant application agreements. 4) Upon notification of the award of a grant, the Sheriff's Office will obtain approval from the Board to accept the grant funds.  Agreements will be subject to County Counsel review and approval.
