Title
District Attorney recommending the Board approve the early step placement of Anthony Garilli, Jr. to Step 5 ($6,581.46/month) of the Deputy District Attorney II salary range, retroactive to December 1, 2012.
Body

Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost
The District Attorney's Office has sufficient appropriations in its Fiscal Year 2012/13 budget to absorb this salary increase, resulting in no increase to Net County Cost.

Background/Reason for Recommendation

The District Attorney is requesting that Anthony Garilli, Jr. be placed at Step 5 of the salary range for Deputy District Attorney II. Mr. Garilli has been employed with the District Attorney's Office since August 1, 2011, beginning his employment as a Graduate Legal Assistant and then functioning as a Deputy District Attorney I after he passed the California State Bar in November, 2011. Mr. Garilli was promoted to a Deputy District Attorney I effective February 11, 2012, and on November 17, 2012, was promoted to a Deputy District Attorney II, at Step 1 ($5,414.93/month).

During his tenure with this District Attorney's Office, Mr. Garilli has far exceeded performance expectations and has gained skills and abilities that normally take much longer to acquire. Mr. Garilli's abilities and knowledge are invaluable to the Department and the citizens of El Dorado County.

In addition, Mr. Garilli is being considered for Deputy District Attorney positions in nearby counties that provide higher compensation. It is far more probable that Mr. Garilli will agree to remain with El Dorado County if he is appointed to Step 5 of the Deputy District Attorney II classification. If this request is not approved and Mr. Garilli resigns from El Dorado County, it will negatively impact the ability of the District Attorney's Office to address the needs of the constituents and victims in El Dorado County.
