Background
Since 2006, when the Library first partnered with First 5 El Dorado to provide research-based early literacy programs for children and their families, the Library's youth services staff have sought additional education and training to bring emerging trends and best practices to our programs.

Reason for Recommendation
The El Dorado County Library is a member of NorthNet Library System, a consortium of Northern California Libraries.  Through the NorthNet Library System, the Library has been provided an opportunity to obtain funding from a Staff Development grant to send staff members to the California Association for the Education of Young Children conference.    The grant was approved in the amount of $2,220.

Six Library staff, including two Youth Services Librarians and four Early Childhood Literacy Specialists will use the funding to attend the California Association for the Education of Young Children conference on March 15 and 16 in San Jose.  The funds will cover the costs of registration, housing and associated travel costs.  All travel and parking expenses in excess of the NorthNet funding will be paid by the First 5 El Dorado grant, resulting in no imact to the General Fund.

Action(s) to be taken following Board approval
Library staff to register for and attend the conference.
