Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost
Funding is from the CalMMET allocation from the State of California.  There are no Net County Cost changes.
Background
In October 2011, the CalMMET funding was changed by the Governor of California from a grant to a direct payment without application, or award.  This new funding is to be used to offset the costs associated with methamphetamine investigations.
A Reimbursement Agreement was signed by the Board at its October 30, 2012 meeting to reimburse the City of South Lake Tahoe, from the Fiscal Year 2011/12 CalMMET funding, for the Task Force Commander's salary and benefits in the amount of $71,235.26 for the term February 1, 2012 - July 31, 2012
The Sheriff's Office is requesting approval of a new retroactive Agreement with the City of South Lake Tahoe for the Task Force Commander's salary and benefits for the Fiscal Year 2012/13 CalMMET funding in the not-to-exceed amount of $82,250 for the term August 1, 2012 - May 31, 2013.
SLEDNET is the County's multi-jurisdictional task force compromised of the Sheriff's Office, City of South Lake Tahoe Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, and the California Department of Justice Bureau of Narcotics Investigation, that is responsible for conducting investigations linked to the illegal distribution of methamphetamine.  A staff member from the California Department of Justice serves as the Task Force Commander.
The Task Force members, which includes the Sheriff's Office, have requested reimbursement to the City of South Lake Tahoe for payment of the Task Force Commander's salary and benefits from the State's CalMMET allocation in a not-to-exceed amount of $82,250.
The Agreement is retroactive due to an extensive process involved in developing a budget for expending CalMMET funds, and receiving approvals from both the City and the County's legal counsel, and City Council's approval.
Reason for Recommendation
Approval of this recommendation will allow for the payment of the Task Force Commander's salary and benefits from August 1, 2012 - May 31, 2013.

Action(s) to be taken following Board approval
Board Clerk to return a copy of the Agreement signed by the Board Chairman to the Sheriff's Office for transmittal to the City of South Lake Tahoe.
