Background
In April 2013, the California State Library invited public libraries to "Pitch an Idea" for a new project that could qualify for federal Library and Services Act funding. The Library's Learning2Go project is based on our experience in providing early literacy educational programs with funding from First 5 El Dorado, and on research such as a recent Pew Research Institute report that found that libraries provide a cost-effective and efficient role in providing early education.

Reason for Recommendation
The purpose of the Learning2Go grant is to provide resources, opportunities and support for young children and their parents and adult caregivers to engage together in early learning activities, particularly emphasizing the role play. The grant will fund three basic areas of focus:
