Background
Since 2009, the Sheriff's Office has been applying annually for the grant funding to offset the costs to patrol the Rubicon Trail. The grant from the California Department of Parks and Recreation provides 75% of the operating costs, and the County is responsible for a 25% match.

Reason for Recommendation
On July 30, 2013 the Sheriff's Office received notification of the grant award from the California Department of Parks and Recreation in the amount of $100,740.00. Law enforcement salary and benefits, as well as general operating expenses for law enforcement on the Rubicon Trail are eligible project costs under this grant. The 25% County Match is proposed to be funded through the use of SMUD Cooperation Agreement special revenue funds. These funds offset salary, benefits, overtime and operational costs for providing patrol services on the Rubicon Trail during the OHV high season months. The performance period of this grant is July 8, 2013 through July 7, 2014.
