Title
Supervisor Briggs recommending the Board authorize Chairman's signature on a letter of support for the El Dorado County Fire Safe Council's application to the California Fire Safe Council for U.S. Forest Service Wildfire Prevention grant funding for the El Dorado County Fire Safe Council's 2014 Residential Defensible Space Program.
Body
For the past eight years, the El Dorado County Fire Safe Council (Council) and its Satellite Fire Safe Councils have successfully coordinated community clean-up events and individual property owner efforts to reduce hazardous fuels around structures, driveways, propane tanks and ingress/egress routes throughout the County of El Dorado.  The Council's efforts include Residential Chipping and Green Waste Dumpster Programs that provide residents with options to remove the hazardous fuels from their property; methods that are alternative to burning on site.  In 2011, debris burning was the largest single cause of wildland fires in the County.  The Council in coordinated effort with the Satellite Councils conduct outreach and education efforts to increase fire safety and defensible space awareness throughout the County.

The Council's 2014 Residential Defensible Space Program seeks to continue the Council's highly successful "Chipping and Green Waste Dumpster" Programs as part of their efforts to reduce hazardous fuels and to perpetuate the message that "Defensible Space Works."
