Community Development Agency, Transportation Division, recommending the Board adopt Resolution 051-2015 sanctioning the closure of Ponderosa Road between Mine Shaft Lane and Meder Road in the Shingle Springs Community adjacent to Ponderosa High School, on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, between 8:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., for “Every 15 Minutes”, subject to conditions set forth in Resolution No. 110-79 dated May 1, 1979, and conditions set forth in the "Application for Road Closure" submitted for this event.

DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION:
The Transportation Division is recommending Board approval of the road closure to provide for the safety of participants, volunteers and spectators along the road, and to assist in the success of this community event. Other involved agencies have made no objections to this closure.
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:
The “Every 15 Minutes” event is sponsored by the Ponderosa High School, El Dorado County Fire Department, Diamond Springs Fire Department and California Highway Patrol. This event will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, between 8:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. “Every 15 Minutes” is a program to increase awareness among young people in the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Part of this program is a staged fatal traffic accident. The sponsors are making a great effort in a realistic event. They believe this will have a much greater impact on their students than staging the accident in the parking lot. The sponsors have requested Ponderosa Road, from Mine Shaft Lane to Meder Road to be closed between 8:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Risk Management has approved the certificate of insurance and concurred with Road Closure.
