DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION
The CAO, DA, and Sheriff’s Office are recommending the Board approve and accept the award and ratify the Sheriffs signature on the Grant Award document for Justice Assistance Grant Program funds.
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The Sheriff’s Office and DA’s recently requested Board authorization to submit an application for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program Fiscal Year 2015 funds. The grant has been awarded in the amount of $15,842. The Sheriff’s Office will receive $7,921 to partially fund sending eight Detectives to the California Narcotic Officers Association (CNOA) Annual Training Institute. The remaining $4,479 needed will be funded by CalMMET special revenue funds.
The DA’s Office will receive $7,921 to partially fund sending four DA Investigators to the California District Attorney Investigators Association (CDAIA) Annual Training Conference, and to purchase law enforcement tactical supplies. The remaining funds needed will be funded by General Funds already budgeted in the DA’s operational budget.
The signed Agreement was due back to the Department of Justice by October 4, 2015, which necessitates this request to ratify the Sheriff’s signature.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no Net County Cost for this program and no matching requirement. The balance of $4,479 needed by the Sheriff’s Office will be funded through CalMMET special revenue funds, and the any additional funds needed by the DA’s Office to offset the costs of the training and supplies will be met with General Fund monies already budgeted in the DA’s operational budget.
