Background: The Agriculture Department currently manages all regulatory invasive weed work in El Dorado and Alpine counties. CDFA is requesting work plans from Weed Management Areas (WMA’s) to sustain Yellow Starthistle control and eradication projects in California. The available funding is intended to continue efforts for the prevention, early detection, and eradication of noxious weed populations. Weed Management Groups consist of numerous public and private entities that are involved in intensive noxious weed population survey and eradication projects. The department will request funding for both counties, with a 01/01/08 start date of the contract.

Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: This funding will provide increased revenue and expenditure appropriations up to $10,000, over an eight month period. If successful, there may be a slight reduction in net county cost.

Action to be taken following Board approval: Department to prepare and submit application, and all supporting documentation, to CDFA on behalf of the El Dorado County Agricultural Department and return to Board for approval, Budget Transfers and signature authority for Grant Agreements if awarded.
