Title: Probation Department recommending Resolution authorizing the Chief Probation Officer to submit an application to the Corrections Standards Authority for Youthful Offender Block Grant (YOBG) funding in the amount of $94,387 to provide appropriate rehabilitative and supervision services to youthful offenders; and Chairman be authorized to sign Budget Transfer to recognize the additional revenue and expense, and allocate same to said Department for use in YOBG program services. Background:
As of September 1, 2007, the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) stopped accepting juvenile court commitments and parole violators, except those convicted of violent, serious, or sex offenses. Juvenile offenders with less serious crimes will now be kept in their local jurisdictions.

The 2007/08 state budget includes $24 million, growing to a total of $92 million by 2010-11, in YOBG funding to provide counties with resources to provide services to juvenile offenders who will no longer be housed in DJJ facilities or supervised by the Division of Juvenile Parole Operations.
