Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: For FY 2007-08, there will be no adverse impact to Net County Cost. The proposed action will provide the Sheriff with the flexibility to hire deputy sheriffs and purchase associated equipment prior to June 30, 2008. Any unspent appropriations associated with this payment will be carried over into FY 2008-09.

Background: For more than ten years, the County pursued legal action against the Tribe over its attempt to open a casino in Shingle Springs. The County and the Tribe entered into a settlement agreement in Septmber 2006. Through this agreement, the Tribe agreed to make an advance payment of $250,000 six months before the Gaming Project opens to the public to allow the County to purchase equipment and hire officers.
