Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: The difference in salary between Step 3 and Step 5 for Mental Health Program Coordinator II is $842.40 for the remainder of FY 07/08. Funding for the additional cost is available from salary savings from the position being vacant. Funding for the position is from MediCal QI/UR and MHSA funds.
Background: Recruitment for and retention of clinical staff in South Lake Tahoe has consistently posed challenges for the Department.
Reason for Recommendation: Mental Health Department conducted an extremely pro-active search for this position which resulted in eight candidates who met the minimum qualifications. Five candidates accepted interviews and two of those candidates returned for second interviews. The Department would like to offer the position to the candidate with the most relevant experience and critical technical skills for this administrative position.
This candidate has a Masters Degree in Pyschology from Santa Clara University and has 10 years of wide-ranging, post-graduate, professional experience in Bay Area county mental health departments. He has served in a superviosry capacity for eight years. Based on his experience and background, the Department is requesting authorization to offer employment at Step 5 of the salary range of Mental Health Program Coordinator II.
