*This is the amount the City will pay County in FY 2008-09. The amount will increase each subsequent year.

Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: City will pay County $64,938 in FY 2008-09 to cover 75% of its share of cost for animal related services. Over the term of this contract, that portion will increase until FY 2011-12 when the City will contribute 100% of its share. As a result, the net County cost of providing these services will decrease over the contract's four-year term.

Background: El Dorado County has provided animal related services to the City of Placerville since 1972. From 1972 until 2006, the City allowed the County to conduct animal related activities, including those of the West Slope Animal Shelter, on City property immediately adjacent to the Cool Water Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility. In 2006, the County moved from the City site in order for the City to upgrade its plant to meet new treatment regulations. The County continued to provide animal related services to the City without a formal agreement since that time.

Over the past months, representatives from the City and the County have worked to find a way for the City to pay for its full share of costs, resulting in a four-year plan.
