Background: Each year, the federal Department of Homeland Security awards funds to California counties through the Governor's Office of Homeland Security.  At this time, the State award amount is unknown, but is expected to be announced by July 28, 2008.  Upon announcement of the federal award to the states, the Governor's Office of Homeland Security will allocate funds to the counties based on a pre-set formula. As part of the County's application, a resolution is required.

The County is a subgrantee and provides funding for equipment, training, planning and exercises, costs to the Cities of South Lake Tahoe and Placerville, Sheriff's Department, Public Health, Environmental Management, Fire Districts, and other eligible local agencies.

Reason for Recommendation: To authorize the application for FY 2008 Homeland Security Grant funds.

Action to be taken following Board approval: Resolution and application will be forwarded to the Governor's Office of Homeland Security after the July 28, 2008 anticipated announcement.
