Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost:
Background: The Board of Supervisors has been apprised of the potential of budget deficits in future years beyond FY 2008-09. On July 28, 2008 a budget workshop was held that began a dialog with the Board on how to best position the County to deal with these deficits. The Board directed the Chief Administrative Office to move forward with individual department meetings utilizing a tiered planning approach. The Board directed the CAO to return on August 25th for a special meeting to provide an update based on these meetings.
Reason for Recommendation: Board to receive additional information on the budget sustainability plan and provide direction to staff.
Action to be taken following Board approval: Chief Administrative Office will incorporate Board feedback into the addenda process and return in September during the budget hearings.
