Information Technologies (IT) recommending the Board consider the following:
1) Approve a Purchase Order to DataEndure in the amount of $199,999.05 for the purchase of new and renewal licensing for the NetBackup appliance and two (2) years of software maintenance coverage for the new licensing; and
2) Authorize the Purchasing Agent to sign a Purchase Order for same.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The NetBackup appliance was purchased from Novacoast in 2014. It was bundled with 6 TB of licensing and an additional 8 TB was purchased separately. The appliance does not prevent additional data beyond licensed capacity from being added to the backup management schedules. Over time, the data protection needs of the County grew at a very rapid pace. Because the device seamlessly managed the additional data, there was never a sense of urgency to true-up the licensing. Prior to purchasing the Netbackup appliance, the software was running on a Windows server, copying files from the server to tape storage. The NetBackup appliance allows for faster data restores.

IT is currently licensed to use the Veritas NetBackup system to manage 14 TB of data. For the past 2 years, IT has been managing as much as 30 TB with this appliance. Currently, IT is under-licensed by 16 TB. Purchasing this package from DataEndure will enable IT to true-up licensing in compliance with the Veritas software licensing agreement. IT will also purchase an additional 2 TB to provide sufficient capacity to remain in compliance with the license agreement over the next year.
