Body

DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION

Sheriff’s Office recommending the Board approve and authorize the Chair to sign a budget transfer related to the Equitable Sharing Special Revenue Funds for the District Attorney (DA) and Sheriff’s Office (SO) allowing for a transfer of funds deposited erroneously to the Sheriff’s Office.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

During Fiscal Year 2015/16 there were multiple payments received by El Dorado County from the Department of Justice that were deposited into the SO’s Asset Forfeiture - Justice Fund.  The funds should have been deposited into the District Attorney's Asset Forfeiture - Narco Fund.  The deposits were identified by utilizing the Department of Justice's E-Share Portal when preparing the Equitable Sharing Certification Report which is brought before the Board on an annual basis for approval.  Multiple deposits into the County's accounting system in November 2015, January 2016 and June 2016 were identified as Seizures belonging to the DA's Office.  Therefore, the identified funds and interest need to be transferred into the DA’s Asset Forfeiture - Narco Fund.  Going forward, the Sheriff's Office and the District Attorney's Office will be collaborating on a quarterly basis to ensure the payments received by the County from the Department of Justice are placed in the correct Asset Forfeiture Special Revenue Fund.
