Title

Supervisor Novasel, in coordination with the Community Development Agency, Transportation Division and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, recommending the Board give conceptual approval to the concept of creating a Traction Control Ordinance.

Body

Supervisor Novasel, with the Community Development Agency, Community Development Agency’s Transportation Division (DOT) and the Sheriff’s Office (EDSO), is recommending the Board give conceptual approval to the concept of creating a Traction Control Ordinance.

Board policy A-3 - Ordinances - New or Amended, requires a new ordinance to be presented to the Board of Supervisors for conceptual review and authorization to prepare the ordinance.

If the Board approves this recommendation, Supervisor Novasel’s office and staff from DOT and the EDSO will work with County Counsel, and other affected departments to:

1) Draft a Traction Control Ordinance for the Board's review, and,

2) Present to the Board the draft ordinance along with resource requirements for the proposed changes.

Through a series of meetings between the Supervisor’s office, DOT, EDSO and the community it has been determined that there is a need for better traction control on local streets within the Tahoe Basin.

It has been suggested that a Traction Control Ordinance such as the type that exists in Calaveras County would provide for the health and safety of vehicles using the public streets as well as better access for emergency service providers such as fire, ambulances, law enforcement and snow removal equipment.
