Supervisor Veerkamp recommending the Board approve and authorize the Chair to sign a Proclamation to recognize May 21 - 27, 2017 as National Public Works Week.
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
Public Works provides and maintains much of the public infrastructure that our citizens have come to depend upon. From public roads and bridges, to planning and land development to environmental management, public works professionals strive to do the public good every day with quiet dedication.
Since the United States Senate resolution affirming the first Nation Public Works Week in 1960 the American Public Works Association has sponsored National Public Works Week across the United States and Canada.
Public Works week is used to raise the public's awareness of public works issues and to increase confidence in public works employees who are dedicated to improving the quality of life for present and future generations.
May 21 - 27, 2017 is National Public Works Week. The County of El Dorado Board of Supervisors joins the American Public Works Association in working to educate the public on issues surrounding public works and supporting and promoting our fine public works employees.
