Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: No change. The Agreement is 100% funded by the Kinship Supportive Services Program allocation that the County receives from the California Department of Social Services with no required County match. $162,000 was budgeted for FY 2007-08 and the remainder is budgeted for FY 2008-09.

Background: The Kinship Support Services Program (KSSP) was authorized by California Assembly Bill 1193 (Chapter 794, Statutes of 1997) and was set forth in Welfare and Institutions Code Section 16605. This program provides funds for the start-up and expansion of county-based family support programs. Family support programs provide community-based family support services to relative and non-relative extended family member caregivers for children who would otherwise enter foster homes or are at risk of dependency or delinquency services. KSSP also provides services to caregivers who have become the legal guardians or adoptive parents of formerly dependent children.
