Title
Supervisor Baumann recommending adoption of  Resolution 327-2008 in support of El Dorado Irrigation District's grant funding application to the Sierra Nevada Conservancy for the project planning for the Hazel Creek and Hazel Creek Campground Restoration Project.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve.
Body
Supervisor Baumann recommends Board approve Resolution 327-2008 which supports El Dorado Irrigation District's grant funding application to the Sierra Nevada Conservancy for the project planning for the Hazel Creek and Hazel Creek Campground Restoration Project.  The funds derive from the Safe Drinking Water, Water Quality and Supply, Flood Control, River, and Coastal Protection Bond Act of 2006.  Restoration of Hazel Creek and the Hazel Creek Campground is a key component of the Sly Park Recreation Area Master Plan, for which the Board of Supervisors did approve Special Use Permit S07-0008 on August 14, 2007.

The Project will restore native vegetation to the Hazel Campground, reduce erosion, increase wildlife habitat, and significantly improve the Hazel Creek Campground experience.  It will also improve environmental conditions along a portion of Hazel Creek, which drains into Jenkinson Lake, an important public water supply for the west slope of El Dorado County and an important recreational lake in the greater Sierra Nevada and Sacramento regions.  The project builds on the adjacent California Department of Fish and Game funded, and nearly complete, Hazel Meadow Restoration Project.
