The Sonar Radar System will be paid for with Salary Savings from the Boating Unit which is funded through the California Boating Safety and Enforcement Financial Aid Program Grant.

DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION:
The Sheriff’s Office recommends that the Chair approves the addition of a Sonar Radar System in the amount of $16,000 to the Sheriff’s Office’s fixed asset list.
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:
The Sheriff’s Office’s Boats Unit is in need of a Sonar Radar System to be used on existing and future vessels in the Boating Fleet. The system is a complete navigation package for vessel operation which displays information below the water using sonar and above the water using radar.
The Sheriff’s Office is requesting to use savings from the approved Fiscal Year 2017/18 Salaries & Benefits budget to purchase the Sonar Radar System with an estimated cost of $16,000. The Sheriff’s Office will work with the Chief Administrator’s Office and complete a budget transfer for this purchase.
ALTERNATIVES:
If not approved, the Sheriff’s Office will be unable to purchase the equipment which is grant funded.
OTHER DEPARTMENT / AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
Procurement and Contracts will assist the Sheriff's Office with the purchases.
CAO RECOMMENDATION:
Approve as recommended.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There will be no impact to Net County Cost. This item is being purchased with grant funded savings from the Salaries & Benefits budget not spent during Fiscal Year 2017/18.
