Reason for Recommendation:
Annually the Federal Government declares the month of May as "Older Americans Month", and the State proclaims May as "Older Californians Month". The 2009 theme is “Living Today for a Better Tomorrow”. The attached Proclamation designates May, 2009 as Older Americans Month in El Dorado County to pay tribute to the rapidly increasing older population in local communities and throughout the world, encourage older Americans to maintain their independence by accessing those support services available to them, and further encourage all businesses, public and private, schools, groups and citizens to celebrate our nation's senior citizens. A local celebration sponsored by the El Dorado County Area Agency on Aging and Commission on Aging is scheduled on May 27th at each Senior Nutrition mealsite. The proclamation declaring May as Older Americans Month in El Dorado County will be read at each site.

A perpetual Senior of the Year trophy is traditionally presented annually to the senior selected to receive this honor, and the deserving nominees each receive a certificate in recognition of their contributions to the community.
