Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: None. The Sheriff is currently paying salary and overtime costs to provide inmate transportation throughout the State of California. Salary savings will exceed the amount of this contract.
Background: Persons are frequently arrested or detained in jurisdictions throughout the State of California on the authority of warrants issued from the County of El Dorado. The Sheriff is responsible for the transportation of said prisoners from the location where the prisoners are in custody to the El Dorado County Jail. This process involves considerable cost.
Reason for Recommendation: The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department operates a statewide prisoner transportation system with scheduled weekly trips throughout the State of California. The Sheriff is desirous of contracting with the County of Los Angeles for the performance of transportaion services by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in or around the State of California, and in or around the County of El Dorado. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is willing, able and desires to perform this service.
Action to be taken following Board approval: The Board Chairman and the Clerk of the Board will sign the contract; Sheriff staff will forward the contracts to Los Angeles County for the Sheriff's signature and a fully executed contract will be returned to the Board Clerk for her files.
