DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The Secretary of State, through the U.S. Elections Administration Commission, has made $25,000 available for Help American vote Act (HAVA) grant reimbursement funds to the Elections Department.

This funding is provided to improve polling place accessibility to voters with disabilities. The Elections Department will use the funds specifically to send two employees to accessibility training, and to purchase any necessary tools to perform accessibility audits (i.e. slope measurement, calculators, tape measures, cameras, etc.) as needed.  The elections department will also use the funds to pay for staff to audit/survey our existing and prospective polling locations, and for the purchase of any needed mitigation equipment (for example temporary door ramps, temporary pull handles, temporary hand rails, low-vision pens, magnifying devices, etc.) to improve accessibility for voters with specific needs.

This is a grant the County has been able to take advantage of for over 7 years, ensuring the voters of El Dorado County a more accessible voting experience.
