Body

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The Fiscal Year 2018-19 Fixed Asset List included a hookloader attachable hot patch to replace patch truck 39-03. The asset was ordered within the fiscal year; however, due to production timelines, the asset will not be delivered within the 2018-19 fiscal year and needs to be carried over to the 2019-20 Fixed Asset List. The purchase order for the item does not exceed $99,000. The Department of Transportation (Transportation) would also like to request a decrease of $99,000 to the paving machine that is currently on the 2019-20 Fixed Asset List because a recent quote came in below the original budgeted amount to bring the new total to $301,000. The reduction in price of the paving machine will allow Transportation to acquire the hookloader attachable hot patch without increasing the budgeted appropriations for Transportation's fixed assets for Fiscal Year 2019-20 and allow Transportation to complete asphalt patching as needed on County roadways.

ALTERNATIVES

The Board may elect to not approve the additional fixed asset item as proposed, although this would leave Transportation with inadequate equipment.

CAO RECOMMENDATION / COMMENTS

It is recommended that the Board approve this item.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The proposed additional fixed asset item results in no increase to Net County Cost due to the reduction of cost in a separate fixed asset item. Funding for this equipment is available in the Road Fund due to Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (SB1) revenue. No budget amendment is needed to include this item in the department's fixed asset listing.
