DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
On April 4, 2016, the Governor of California signed legislation raising the minimum wage for all industries (Senate Bill 3, amending section 1182.12 of the California Labor Code). Effective January 1, 2020, the minimum wage in California will increase from $12.00 per hour to $13.00 per hour. Human Resources is recommending salary increases to meet the minimum threshold for the following classifications:

· Elections Worker - EH
· Food Services Aide
· General Trainee - EH
· Mental Health Aide
· Park Operations Assistant
· Probation Transport Driver
· Student Intern - EH
· Student Intern Undergrad - EH
· Transportation Officer

ALTERNATIVES
In order to comply with the abovementioned Senate Bill, there is no alternative.

CAO RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board approve this item.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
The annual fiscal impact for represented classifications is approximately $16,800 a year based on the utilization of those classifications in ten months of 2019. The fiscal impact for extra help classifications is approximately $11,500 a year, based on the utilization of those classifications in ten months of 2019. The total estimated increased cost for six months of Fiscal Year 2019-20 is $14,200.
