Body

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:

Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) recommending the Board approve the Chair to sign a Budget Transfer Request (BTR) to increase revenue and appropriations for FY 2019-20 by $68,411. This transfer would result in no increase to Net County Cost.

Community Services Division Senior Nutrition program received an increase in State grant one-time funding to increase capacity and services to seniors. The purchases will be used to support both congregate and home delivered meals.

The $25,000 increase to fixed assets will be used to support food safety and increase delivery capacity as follows:

1)  Advance Cold Pan Table for congregate mealsite:  salad/serving table: $19,500.

2)  Blast Chiller to quick chill food for delivery: $5,500

The Small Equipment increase of $43,000 will be used is to purchase various containers and coolers to transport food safely and replacing/updating small equipment that is no longer usable.

Each Area Agency on Aging (AAA) received $150,000 one-time funding augmentation to build capacity in senior nutrition services, such as purchasing equipment, improving and/or expanding nutrition program services.  The remainder of the funding allocation will be used to meet deliverables to provide additional meals to the previous unserved, unduplicated clients.  The goal of this Nutrition Augmentation Funding is to provide more meals to more unduplicated clients, at the discretion of the AAA.

ALTERNATIVES:

Should the Board decline to authorize this BTR, the capacity to provide Senior Nutrition Services would remain at the current level.
