Body

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The California Department of Public Health serves as the fiscal intermediary for State and federal funding of the Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) and Public Health Hospital Preparedness (PHEP) programs. This funding is used to ensure delivery of coordinated and effective response to victims of terrorism, natural disasters, and other public health emergencies. A portion of the funding has been identified in the HPP work plan under “Scope of Work HPP Capabilities: Foundation for Healthcare and Medical Readiness, Healthcare and Medical Response, Continuity of Healthcare Delivery, and Medical Surge” for the purchase, storage and maintenance of medical supplies and equipment to ensure operational readiness in the event of an emergency as defined by the HPP grant.

As a healthcare coalition member in Emergency Preparedness & Response’s Preparedness Workgroup, Barton Healthcare Systems has been identified as a recipient of funding to purchase specific items to ensure their ability to deliver coordinated and effective care in the event of a disaster.
