Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: None. The Sheriff's FY2009/10 operating budget has budgeted funds for this service.

Background: The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office has the need to contract for Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) services for investigative purposes. The Sheriff currently contracts with Marshall Hospital on the west slope and Barton Memorial Hospital in Lake Tahoe.

Reason for Recommendation: On occasion, there is a need to send a victim of a sexual assault and/or the suspect to a Placer County hospital because neither Marshall Medical and/or Barton Memorial Hospital have the staffing available or staffing with the necessary expertise available to perform these evidentiary examinations. It is imperative that the examination be completed as soon as possible so it is more practical for the victim and/or suspect to be transported to a Placer County hospital than to wait for our local hospital(s) to provide the service.
