REASON FOR RECOMMENDATION: At the request of Information Technologies Department, the Procurement and Contracts division issued an Invitation to Bid for Telephone Switch Upgrade in South Lake Tahoe. The upgrade of the South Lake Tahoe switch will integrate the communications structure on the East Slope with the Placerville main switch and will provide back-up for all call functions for Placerville and South Lake Tahoe in the event of a disaster. The current telephone switch infrastructure is at end of life and will not be supported in three (3) years. As the end of support date grows closer, it is becoming increasingly harder to find parts to repair and maintain the current infrastructure.

Six (6) invitations to bid were mailed; three (3) qualified responses were received. No local vendors provide the required products and services.

FISCAL IMPACT/CHANGE TO NET COUNTY COST: Procurement and Contracts has been advised that funding is available within the Information Technology Department's budget. General Fund.
