 DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:

On August 25, 2021, RS Analysis, Inc. donated $10,000 to the Pet Aid Fund, asking that the donation be used to support the efforts by the Health and Human Services Agency, Animal Services Program (Animal Services) during the Caldor Fire.

At this time, Animal Services is supporting over 1,500 animals evacuated from the Caldor Fire, including but may not be limited to 1,055 large animals, and 480 small animals (139 dogs, 268 cats, and 73 other species including rats, mice, tortoises, parrots, etc.) at three (3) separate locations on the Western Slope. Twenty-four (24)-hour staffing is needed to maintain operations at the sites, in addition to maintaining normal operations at the South Lake Tahoe shelter. Additional expenses are being incurred for items such as, animal food, first aid supplies, vaccinations, veterinary care, and increased staffing needs. At this time, Animal Services is expected to maintain the additional shelter operations for at least thirty (30) days and continue increased field response and evacuations as needed.

Animal Services is grateful for the donation and it will be used to continue to provide support for the evacuated animals during this emergency.
