Body
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:
Throughout the Caldor Fire, Animal Services has supported over 1,800 evacuated animals, including 1,200 large animals, and 600 small animals (dogs, cats, and other species including rats, mice, tortoises, parrots, etc.) at three separate locations on the Western Slope. Twenty-four hour staffing was needed to maintain operations at the sites, in addition to maintaining normal operations at the South Lake Tahoe shelter. Additional expenses were incurred for items such as, animal food, first aid supplies, vaccinations, veterinary care, and increased staffing needs.

On August 31, 2021, Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation donated $10,000, asking that the donation be used to support the efforts by the Health and Human Services Agency, Animal Services Program (Animal Services) during the Caldor Fire. Animal Services is grateful for the donation and it will be used to continue to provide support for the evacuated animals resulting from the wildfire emergency and to provide support for ongoing animal rescue, rehabilitation, and treatment efforts.
