DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

Earth Day is April 22, 2022.  Earth Day is an annual reminder of the constant need for environmental activism, stewardship commitments and sustainability efforts. This proclamation encourages all of its citizens, businesses and institutions to use Earth Day to celebrate the Earth and promote the protection of our species.

National Playground Safety Week is April 26-30, 2022.  National Playground Safety Week is intended to draw attention to the fact that accidents on public and private playgrounds is widespread and has public health and safety implications for every community member in the County of El Dorado.   With continued leadership and dedication there is compelling evidence to suggest we can be successful in reducing accidents in parks and recreation areas in the County of El Dorado through prevention, education, increased community awareness, and holding responsible playground builders and supervisors responsible for their playground and recreational elements. This proclamation recognizes the need for safe playgrounds everywhere for the protection of children. On January 20, 2022, the El Dorado County Parks and Recreation Commission voted to approve this proclamation.
