DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:
The Commission on Aging (COA) is an advisory Committee to the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors and to the Area Agency on Aging. In accordance with Title III of the Older Americans Act, the COA focuses on the issues and the interests of seniors in El Dorado County. They also promote services to help seniors to remain in their homes and to prevent elder abuse.

The COA is comprised of five (5) members appointed from each Board District one (1) member-at-large; one (1) member from each incorporated city in the county; and six (6) members appointed by the Commission. Meetings are held monthly, except during the months of July and December.

Annually, the COA reports to the Board regarding the activities and accomplishments of the COA over the prior year. Some highlights from 2022 include the development of COA Mission, Vision and Values statements, return to in person meetings in February 2022 for their Annual COA Retreat to set priorities for the upcoming year, and a booth, in conjunction with HHSA, at the El Dorado County Fair focusing on the COA and senior programs. The COA new Housing for Seniors Committee is actively meeting with decision makers, stakeholders and developers regarding the needs of Older Adults in housing projects. The COA is excited to return to in-person events, meetings, and presentations within the county and the older adult residents.
