Background: Justice Assistance Grants are a funding source that blends the previous Edward Byrne formula and Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Programs (LLEBG) to provide agencies with the flexibility to prioritize and place justice funds where they are needed most. Funds must be used to supplement existing funds and cannot replace, or supplant, non-federal funds appropriated for the same purpose.
The County has applied for and received this grant for the past several years. In prior years the grant amount has been between $12K and $38K which has provided technology programs in the District Attorney's office and has been used to offset costs associated with outstanding warrant efforts in the District Attorney's office.
Reason for Recommendation: The 2010 grant is proposed to continue outstanding warrant efforts in the District Attorney's office. The Chief Administrative Office will work with staff in the District Attorney's office to apply for and manage the grant. The deadline to submit the application for this solicitation is June 30, 2010.
Action to be taken following Board approval: The Grant application will be submitted.
