Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: Funds for this lease have been included in the FY 2010-11 budget. There is no net cost to the County General Fund associated with this agenda item.

Background: The Department of Transportation has been providing temporary housing for staff in the Tahoma area during heavy snow storms for the past 13 years.

Reason for Recommendation: During the snow season in the Tahoma/Tahoe area, the Department of Transportation frequently works around the clock to keep the roads plowed and sanded. During periods of significant snowfall, it is necessary for the Department to send staff from the Maintenance Division assigned to the Placerville facility to South Lake Tahoe and Tahoma, possibly for several days. To accommodate the working snow crew, it is necessary to provide housing for them. DOT Facilities Division, Real Property Unit, has negotiated a lease for this purpose, commencing on December 1, 2010 and ending on March 31, 2011, with provisions for an additional one month period, if the weather is extremely bad.
