Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: There is no change in Net County Cost. If approved by CalRecycle, the Department will bring back the appropriate budget adjustments. No matching contribution is required for this grant.

Background: The Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) administers various Grant Programs in furtherance of the State of California's efforts to properly collect, recycle and dispose of household hazardous waste in the State thereby protecting public health, safety and the environment.

Reason for Recommendation:  If awarded, Household Hazardous Waste grant funds will be utilized to expand the existing HHW facility in El Dorado Hills. The grant will fund construction of an additional storage area, replacement of a storage container and equipment and outreach to implement a reuse program.  The storage area will consist of a concrete pad for empty drums, pallets and equipment.   The storage container will replace one of the existing storage containers that has rusted through and no longer provides sufficient secondary containment.  Reuse equipment will include tables and totes for presenting usable materials to the residents.
Action to be taken following Board approval: Upon execution by the Chair, the Board Clerks Office will forward the resolution to Environmental Management for submittal with the grant application.
