GUEST SPEAKER: CAROLYN ROSS, MSW, CO-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, VILLAGE
MOVEMENT CALIFORNIA
Carolyn Ross presented information about the Village Movement California. The Village
Movement California is part of Village to Village network, a national initiative that
empowers communities to establish and manage their own “villages” aimed at supporting
healthy aging. There is a membership fee to join the network. Volunteerism is core to
the program.
AREA AGENCY ON AGING DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Yvette Wencke provided the report.
--The one-time only ARPA funding is ending on September 30, 2025. The Area
Agency on Aging is requesting the purchase of two new vehicles and a large mixing bowl.
The items need to be ordered, received and paid by September 30, 2025 to qualify for
this funding.
--The new fee structure for the Club was effective July 1, 2025. The El Dorado Hills
location is closed, and 11 participants transferred to the Placerville location. El Dorado
Transit established a special route between the El Dorado Hills Senior Center and the
Placerville Club location and eight individuals are utilizing this service. A total of 36
individuals are currently enrolled in The Club.
--CalFresh funding was cancelled at the federal level. The Area Agency on Aging was
working with the California Department of Aging to implement a program. This has been
cancelled.
Jordan Brushia provided a report.
--Transportation/Assisted Transportation services are available on the West Slope. She
is still looking for a provider in the South Lake Tahoe area. There are three separate
funding sources for this service. Each funding source has its own eligibility
requirements.
--The Fall Prevention has served 40 clients. Interested individuals need to pre-register
online.
--The 2025 Farmers Market coupons are utilizing a new electronic process. Distribution
will be postponed until mid-August. There will be 150 Farmers Market vouchers
available.
--Bingocize will be restarting on August 26, 2025. Classes are two times per week for
ten weeks.
Rebecca Johnson provided a report.
--Senior Activities are continuing to be well attended.
--There is an increased interest for exercise and line dancing classes. The
Placerville Senior Center is unable to provide evening classes.
-- Volunteers are needed for the You Are Not Alone (YANA) program.
--The Community Action Council (CAC) has one vacant position representing the
low-income sector.
--The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance program has funding available for wood,
propane and heating oil.
HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES AGENCY MANAGEMENT REPORT
Lynette Engelhardt-Stott provided the report. The Area Agency on Aging was invited by
the California Department of Aging to participate in a Fall Prevention grant application. If
awarded, this grant would provide funding for four years. UC Davis and Marshall Medical
are also a part of the grant application. The County is starting the Fiscal Year 2026/2027
budget process. The Board is looking for General Fund cost savings. Lynette is hoping
the Commission can assist with ideas of new funding sources for Senior Programs.
