Background:
The Apple Hill Grower's Association and Hope House are sponsoring the Apple Hill Blossom Trail Run as a fundraising event for Hope House Women's/Children Shelter.  This run is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2011, and will take place primarily in the beautiful orchards and vineyards of Camino, commonly known as "Apple Hill."

The run will begin and end on private land, El Dorado Orchards (2881 North Canyon Road).  Shortly after starting, the runners will cross North Canyon Road (about 200 feet north of Fruitridge Road) and enter Fruitridge Road at that intersection.  Runners will then proceed west on Fruitridge Road for approximately 1,000 feet, where they will turn left onto private farm land.

The run will continue through orchards and vineyards until briefly (about 50 feet) running along Fruitridge Road, and entering the U.S. Forest Service nursery.  After crossing the U.S. Forest Service nursery parcel, runners will proceed onto Fruitridge Road for about 300 feet, and turn right onto Hassler Road for another 300 feet, at which time they will enter a private vineyard (Lava Cap).  After touring the vineyard, runners will retrace the route on Hassler Road, then left at Fruitridge Road, and back into the U.S. Forest Service nursery.  When exiting again onto Fruitridge, runners will proceed directly across Fruitridge into a private tree farm heading east.  The final road crossing will be back at North Canyon Road at El Dorado Orchards, where runners will proceed directly across the road at 2881 North Canyon.

In order to connect the various participating farms, it  is necessary to request the following Road Closures:  1) North Canyon Road from just north of 2881 North Canyon Road to Fruitridge Road from approximately 8:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.;  2) Fruitridge Road from North Canyon Road to Hassler Road from approximately 8:15 a.m. until 9:45 a.m.;  3) Hassler Road from Fruitridge to just north of Fruitridge for about 500 feet, from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.; and 4) road crossing  at 2881 North Canyon Road from approximately 9:00 a.m. until the last runner crosses.

Roadblocks will be managed by adult volunteers with walkie talkies and cell phones throughout the entire event and parking will be at El Dorado Orchards, Hillside Tree Farm, Rapetti Tree Farm and Boa Vista.

The portions of the run that are located to the east of North Canyon Road are on private land and do not enter any public roadway.  No portion of the run is upon or crosses Carson Road.

Reason for Recommendation:  The Department of Transportation is recommending the Board approve the proposed Resolution for the safety and success of this community event.  Other involved agencies have made no objections to this closure.

Action to be taken following Board approval:
1.      The Board Clerk to obtain the Chair's signature on the Resolution.
2.      The Board Clerk to send a fully executed copy of the Resolution to the
      Department of Transportation.
3.      The roads listed in the Resolution will be closed on Saturday, April 30, 2011, between 8:00 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. for the "Apple Hill Blossom Trail Run" activities.
