Background: Due to the danger to swimmers and fisherman and the narrow confines of the water's edge, it is unlawful for any person to operate a motorboat on any protion of the following waters: E. South Fork American River; Chili Bar Dam to the confluence with the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area. (Ord. 3496 4, 1984: Ord. 3463 2, 1984: prior code 7743). Provided, however, that the Board of Supervisors may waive the provisions of this section on a case by case basis where it finds that for reasons of health and safety, economic well-being of the County, or other good and sufficient reasons as determined in the sole judgement of the Board of Supervisors. (Ord. 4316, 1993).
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Department, Boating Safety Unit, in conjunction with the California State Department of Boating and Waterways is requesting a waiver of County ordinance 12.64.040, Subsection E, for purposes for hosting a State sponsored Swiftwater PWC course. The dates of the course are tentatively scheduled for March 24-26,2008 and May 12-14, 2008.
Reason for Recommendation: To allow the Sheriff's Boats Unit to host a State sponsored Swiftwater PWC course
Action to be taken following Board approval: The Sheriff's Boat Unit will prepare to hold this event within one of three possible County sites: Nugget campground just below the Chili Bar Dam; upriver from the Salmon Falls Bridge up to the area described as Surprise Rapids; and the area bordered by Henningson - Lotus Park, up to the Hwy 49 Bridge.
