DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

A Notice of Vacancy was posted on June 9, 2022 after receiving a resignation by Commission member for the Fruit and Nut Farming Industry.

The Agricultural Commission is comprised of seven members, not officials of the county, appointed by the Board of Supervisors, representing the following industries:  Forestry/Related (1), Livestock (2), Fruit and Nut Farming (2), Agricultural Processing (1), and Other Agricultural Interests (1).

In accordance with Agricultural Commission Bylaws adopted by the Board of Supervisors on August 31, 2004, a Notice of Terms of Office Expiration was submitted to the local newspapers and to county agricultural organizations. In addition, an independent Review Panel comprised of industry representatives as identified in the Agricultural Commission By-Laws § 4(a), were scheduled to meet on July 27, 2022, to review applications and interview candidates. The position of Fruit and Nut Farming was terminated by the current Agricultural Commission member on June 9, 2022 with six months remaining on his term.

Applications were required to be submitted by close of business July 19, 2022 to the Board of Supervisors office.  As a result of the notifications, there was one application received for the position. The review panel interviewed the applicant on July 27, 2022 and voted unanimously to appoint Charles Mansfield to the position for Fruit and Nut Farming Industry.
