DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The Probation Department (Probation) would like to store two trailers at Viking RV Storage LLC (Viking) in Shingle Springs. The two trailers are:
1) Range trailer (10’) - Stores supplies for use when Probation officers attend local firearms ranges for training. Currently stored at the Probation office in Shingle Springs.
2) Outreach trailer (27’) - On May 16, 2023, with Legistar file 23-0459, the Board approved Probation’s purchase of a Public Safety Outreach Trailer. The Outreach Trailer was delivered to Fleet Services on July 17, 2024. The Sheriff’s Office is currently storing the Outreach Trailer, with the understanding that Probation will be obtaining off-site storage as soon as possible.
Viking provides covered storage; staff on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week; security cameras; locked access gate; license plate reader for all those that enter the facility; a sewer dump station; and a washing area for large vehicles.
It is undesirable to store the trailers at the Probation Facility on Durock Road in Shingle Springs, as parking is limited and should be for employees and clients only. Additionally, though Probation has security cameras on-site, these parking places have public access which could make the trailers a target for theft or damage.
The proximity of Viking to Probation (1.6 miles) makes it convenient for pick-up and return of the trailers as needed.
The proposed Agreement 8889 will allow Probation use of storage spaces for 24 months. Prepaying for 24 months for the two spaces will guarantee Probation will have covered spaces and allow for the use of the dump station, wash station, and air station at no charge. The monthly rental fee per trailer is $379, with a $379 deposit for each trailer.
ALTERNATIVES
Should the Board decline to approve this Agreement, Probation will need to find another vendor who can provide adequate and convenient storage space.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no change to Net County Cost. The funding for the storage spaces is included in Probation’s Fiscal Year 2024-25 budget and will be in future budget years’ requests.
