DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
On January 24, 2023, the Board directed staff to include a commemorative plaque in the plaza of the Public Safety Facility in recognition of former Sheriff D'Agostini's vision for the Public Safety Facility and to return to the Board within 30 days with cost estimates for the plaque and for new signage on the face of the building above the front doors. Facilities staff have been working with the Sheriff's Office and received quotes for both a plaque and new signage. The process of finalizing the language for the plaque and determining placement for the new signage did take longer than anticipated. In order to avoid damage to the building by removing the existing sign directly above the front doors, staff, in conjunction with the Sheriff's Office, is recommending that new signage be placed to the left of the front doors. The existing signage "El Dorado County Sheriff's Office" will remain.
Attachment A is a rendering of the bronze plaque which will be installed near the front doors of the facility. The cost for manufacturing and installation of the plaque is $5,337. This cost does not include sales tax.
Attachment B is a rendering of the new signage which will be placed to the left of the front doors. The cost for manufacturing and installation of the signage is $12,095. This cost does not include sales tax.
The total cost for both the plaque and new signage totals $17,432 plus sales tax.
If the Board approves the sign and the plaque, Facilities will work with the Sheriff's Office to verify that funding from private donors has been received and move forward with ordering and installation of the sign and the plaque. The Sheriff's Office can accept individual donations of $10,000 or less. If the Sheriff's Office receives an individual donation in excess of $10,000, the Sheriff's Office would need to return to the Board for acceptance of the donation.
ALTERNATIVES
