DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The El Dorado County Fish & Wildlife Commission is proud to support a youth fishing derby in El Dorado Hills in early summer 2027.

No funding agreement is required since this is a County program. If approved, the Chief Administrative Office will transfer the funding to the Fish & Wildlife Commission Fund directly from the General Fund - Other Operations (Department 15). The Department of Agriculture will ensure the funds are used to stock fish in the pond at Village Green Park in El Dorado Hills, as they do with other Fish & Wildlife Commission approved activities.

Approval by the Board provides the finding that a public benefit is derived from supporting this endeavor, which seeks to host a youth fishing derby. The event safely hosts around 150 to 200 kids aged 3-15 for a free, fun day of outdoor competition. Putting county funds directly into stocking the pond means every single tax dollar goes straight toward the actual fish needed to meet the event’s demand.

ALTERNATIVES

The Board could choose not to approve the funding request, and no funding would be provided in support of this effort.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
