DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION
Parks Division recommends the Board receive the presentation from the National Pony Express Association and approve the National Historic Trail Signage proposal.
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
Local representatives of the National Pony Express Association (NPEA) contacted the Parks Division of the Chief Administrative Office, to request the County's assistance for the proposed signage of the original Pony Express Trail route in El Dorado County. It was decided that the signage of the original trail be phased, with the first phase starting in Shingle Springs and continuing to El Dorado, adjacent to and on Mother Lode Drive.
The Parks Division and NPEA worked with Community Development Agency, Transportation Division, Maintenance and Operations, to apply for an encroachment permit and to determine the size, location and installation of the signage. The encroachment permit was granted and the final mapping of the signage locations was completed and approved by the Transportation Division and NPEA pending Board approval.
